Kevin Patrick Smith (born August 2, 1970) is an American screenwriter, actor, film producer, and director, as well as a popular comic book writer, author, comedian/raconteur, and internet radio personality.

He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy Clerks (1994), in which he appeared as the character Silent Bob. Smith’s first several films were mostly set in his home state of New Jersey, and while not strictly sequential, they frequently feature crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon described by fans as the “View Askewniverse”, named after his production company View Askew Productions, which he co-founded with Scott Mosier.

PostPanic director Mischa Rozema’s new short film, Stardust, is a story about Voyager 1 (the unmanned spacecraft launched in 1977 to explore the outer solar system). The probe is the furthest man-made object from the sun and witnesses unimaginable beauty and destruction. The film was triggered by the death of Dutch graphic designer Arjan Groot, who died aged 39 on 16th July 2011 from cancer.

The entire team at PostPanic (the Amsterdam-based creative company) pushed themselves in their own creative post techniques to produce a primarily CG short film crafted with love.

The film’s story centers on the idea that in the grand scheme of the universe, nothing is ever wasted and it finds comfort in us all essentially being Stardust ourselves. Voyager represents the memories of our loved ones and lives that will never disappear.

From a creative standpoint, Rozema wanted to explore our preconceived perceptions of how the universe appears which are fed to us by existing imagery from sources such NASA or even sci-fi films. By creating a generated universe, Rozema was able to take his own ‘camera’ to other angles and places within the cosmos. Objects and experiences we are visually familiar with are looked at from a different point of view. For example, standing on the surface of the sun looking upwards or witnessing the death and birth of a star – not at all scientifically correct but instead a purely artistic interpretation of such events.

Rozema says, ‘I wanted to show the universe as a beautiful but also destructive place. It’s somewhere we all have to find our place within. As a director, making Stardust was a very personal experience but it’s not intended to be a personal film and I would want people to attach their own meanings to the film so that they can also find comfort based on their own histories and lives.’

Rozema turned to his regular audio partner, Guy Amitai, to create the music for the film. ‘I approached Guy to make the music because I trust him and knew he would instinctively understand what I wanted to communicate with this film.’ Their long-term collaboration over the years helped them explore different musical approaches before finally settling on a musical journey featuring analogue instruments. Amitai explains, ‘Once we started working on this project and I told people about Stardust and what Arjan meant to us all, the offers started pouring in. Musician friends and friends-of-friends all wanting to join in and record even the smallest parts. It was an incredibly emotional and personal journey for us all – not something you can professionally detach yourself from.’

When i downloaded this game before 2 days i didn’t expect much of it, i didn’t think much of the graphics, and i thought i will get bored of it within a few minutes.

But boy i was wrong, its anything but boring, everything in it is awesome from sound effects, graphics, gameplay. heck!, the game even has its own original soundtrack that will have you humming along for days.

The game reminded me of childhood story books and cartoon shows. The goal of the game is to help an unassuming little Pig with allergies on his quest to rid his village of invading monsters, using only his wits and his err tasty boogers?!

Every now and then we stumble upon a great short movie, that surprise us, makes us happy, sad or amazed by the quality of animation or cinematography, so we decided to create this blog post for any short movie we like and think its worth sharing

The list will be updated with new movies we come across, so keep checking it out.

Internet Story

A fast-paced and thought-provoking film told through fragments of internet videos, animations, blogs and news articles. A series of shocking events unfolds when a young man creates a public treasure hunt for his own amusement and a video blogger decides to pursue the riddles across country.

UNEARTHED

On the edge of space, a mining ship, The Ezekiel, finds an uncharted planet that reveals signs of a possible fuel resource. Two crew members undertake a mission to the desolate rock to take samples for later analysis. The mission goes well until they unearth a dark and terrifying truth.

Mahna Mahna Killer

This short film could be categorized as a dark comedy in my eyes. There is an unexpected twist you may not see coming, but you will find it quite amusing. Catch the Mahna Mahna Killer after the break!

Lift

Filmmaker Marc Isaacs sets himself up in a London tower block lift. The residents come to trust him and reveal the things that matter to them creating a humorous and moving portrait of a vertical community.

— Ludwig Wittgenstein, an Austrian-British philosopher who worked primarily in logic, the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of language. He was professor in philosophy at the University of Cambridge from 1939 until 1947. In his lifetime, he published just one book review, one article, a children’s dictionary, and the 75-page Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus (1921).

In 1999, his posthumously published Philosophical Investigations (1953) was ranked as the most important book of 20th-century philosophy by the Baruch Poll , standing out as “…the one crossover masterpiece in twentieth-century philosophy, appealing across diverse specializations and philosophical orientations”. Philosopher Bertrand Russell described him as “the most perfect example I have ever known of genius as traditionally conceived, passionate, profound, intense, and dominating”.

Islamic calligraphy, also known as Arabic calligraphy, is the artistic practice of handwriting, or calligraphy, and by extension, of bookmaking, in the lands sharing a common Islamic cultural heritage.

This art form is based on the Arabic script, which for a long time was used by all Muslims in their respective languages. They used it to represent God because they denied representing God with images. Calligraphy is especially revered among Islamic arts since it was the primary means for the preservation of the Qur’an. Suspicion of figurative art as idolatrous led to calligraphy and abstract depictions becoming a major form of artistic expression in Islamic cultures, especially in religious contexts. The work of calligraphers was collected and appreciated.

In 2001 i was a young web designer, I was working in a small design studio for a low income. I loved my work and it felt its the best thing anyone can do.

While looking for inspiration i have found Hillman Curtis website, and immediately i loved his style, designs, and most of all his career path. Somehow i felt i have a similar path, and it will be great if some day i can reach to a point to be as famous, and talented as him. after all he started his career in web design in his 30s and he didn’t have any prior knowledge about computers, or design software.

On March 2002 i have sent Hillman an email asking him to view some of my work and give me his guidance and thoughts on it, I had doubts and I thought I will never get a reply, but on April i got a reply from him saying that my links didn’t work. (problem with my hosting). though he didn’t see my work, and he didn’t tell me if my designs were great or bad. but it felt great just getting that email. and through out the years to come i showed the email to everyone i know.

I bought his book MTIV ( Process. Inspiration and Practice for the New Media Designer) and i fell in love with it. he was extremely honest and answered lots of questions, talked about fears and doubts a designer will have in his career, and how to overcome them.

Then Hillman started making short video interviews, with designers, and the creative. again, a whole new world opened up, i got to see what makes the creative tick. why they do what they do. they talked about their passion. and somehow all of this felt relative to me.

I am in my mid 30s, i have a small design studio, and its doing great, am not a famous designer, and design didn’t make me rich. but i am proud of my journey and looking forward for the years to come. my design journey begin before a decade, and through these years, Hillman was part of my career, a teacher, someone who inspired me to do what i love and am sure he was the same to thousands of designers too.

i remember before 3 years i wanted to send another email to Hillman thanking him for all of his work, stories, books, short interviews and his honesty. i kept delaying it, to find the perfect time to write the right words. and i never send that email.

on April 2012 Hillman past away. it was a sad surprise for me, and i felt really bad because i never send that email.

HILLMAN from Hillman Curtis on Vimeo.

so here is a long due thank you to true gentleman, and passionate artist.

Thank you for being part of my journey as a designer, thank you for being honest, thank you for the books, the interviews, the ideas and for all the inspiration you give to me and thousands of other designers from around the world.

In 2009, the Milwaukee Police Department launched its Be a Force campaign, an effort to get the community more involved in working with local authorities on crime prevention. Now the organization has upgraded its online presence with a site that seems perhaps more befitting a Fortune 500 company.

Milwaukee Police

About us section / use of photography

Agency Cramer-Krasselt Milwaukee created the website as a pro bono assignment, working with LISS Interactive.

The first of its kind for a law enforcement agency, the site revolves around The Source, a feed of police news, and includes crime stats, FAQs with basic info like retrieving towed cars, profiles of fallen officers, and even a roundup of Milwaukee’s Most Wanted. But the site serves up its useful information in an atypically badass way—the experience comes complete with slick 3D photography and parallax scrolling.

Other police departments just got served.
